Model Forest Management Area

The MFMA Project was initiated following the report of an ITTO mission to Sarawak in 1989, which recommended the establishment of a "model logging concession" area as one of the training facilities to control excessive damage caused by timber harvesting.

  • Specific objectives of MFMA were:-
  • To establish sustainable forest production management systems for mixed hill forests of Sarawak within limits of environmental acceptability.
  • To train staff and workers in implementation of the programme.
  • To demonstrate new methods and technologies for sustainable production management in the model area.
